Growing up around a certain kind of people exclusively can have a profound impact later in life, as we venture outside of familiar surroundings and into society at large. At first it can be difficult to interact with people who speak and dress differently than we are accustomed to. In these situations it, is important to remember that the person inside the clothes is always more important than the clothes themselves.
Consider nature; diversity is what keeps things running smoothly. If any one part of nature becomes out of balance, then everything else is in jeopardy. Countries and societies need this same kind of balance to remain effective in an ever-changing world. Meeting people who dress or speak in a different way than you are accustomed is a positive indication of progress that our society continues to make.
Different people bring new and fresh ideas to the table. A great idea is valuable no matter what the person who has it chooses to wear. Fortunately, the freedom that we enjoy in this country ensures that people can dress differently while living in this country. After all, beneath the surface we’re all the same; and each of us has something valuable to contribute.
