General Program Information
- 21 hours of instruction per week
- Students are 18 years and older
- Average of 8 students per class, maximum of 12
- All students receive individual attention
- Private tutorial sessions available
- Emphasis on speaking and understanding
- iBT TOEFL preparation option
- Internet-connected and wi-fi computer lab; free access to OpenBook Learning software
- Certificate of completion
- All students take a pre-admission placement test to evaluate speaking and writing levels before arrival
- Conditional acceptance to Greenfield Community College, Springfield College, Western New England College, Bay Path College, Elms College, Westfield State College and Hampshire College.
The minimum class size is six students. If the level of a student is lower or higher than current classes, the student's course of study will include 15 hours per week with an instructor, computer lab time and supervised and independent study.
Housing can be arranged with area hosts. Northampton is located in scenic western Massachusetts. It is a small town in a university area and has many shops and cafe's on its quaint, tree-lined main street.

A typical one month program costs: ~ $2,505 (includes initial fees, tuition, insurance and housing without meals)
Additional months (4 weeks), add: ~ $1,855 per month (includes tuition, housing without meals & insurance) Students are welcome to add partial months.

- Learn English through speaking, listening, reading and writing in small interactive classes.
- Strengthen grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation skills.
- Focus on speaking and understanding at the beginning and elementary level, while also developing reading and writing skills.
- Focus on writing and reading strategies, at the intermediate and advanced levels while improving speaking accuracy and expanding vocabulary.

Assessment
Student performance is measured through tests, writing samples and through on-going teacher and self-evaluations. Students who show satisfactory progress, participate in class, and attend at least 90% of classes receive a certificate of completion.
▲ Private Tutorial
For an additional cost, students can sign up for private tutorials with an experienced and skilled professional. These private classes are designed to provide individual instruction for specific goals.
Students in the Intensive English Program can choose from 3 different programs:
- Full-day Private tutorials - 20 hours of private instruction each week
Cost: $1100 per week - Morning group Intensive English Program and 6 hours per week of afternoon private instruction each week
Cost: $585 per week - Morning and Afternoon group Intensive English classes plus 4 hours of afternoon private instruction each week
Cost: $665 per week
Areas of focus include: - Business English; specialized vocabulary and presentation skills
- Academic preparation
- Error correction, pronunciation and accent reduction
- Increasing fluency and accuracy in English
Prices for private tutorials: 1 to 9 hours : $65.00 per hour 10 to 19 hours: $60.00 per hour 20 hours and more: $55.00 per hour

▲ Teachers
All ILI teachers are skilled professionals with Masters degrees or TESOL certificate and a minimum of one year in student-centered teaching.They use the most modern and innovative teaching methods to encourage maximum student participation and feedback. The language is made real and immediately usable outside the classroom through simulations, interviews and dialogues prepared from real-life situations as well as discussions and games. Support Services
ILI is committed to providing student support. Students are assisted individually, so that their transition into their new community is as comfortable as possible. The staff is available for personal support, in addition to academic and cultural counseling. Extra help is available to all students through our volunteer tutor program, which pairs students with community members for additional conversational practice and individual help. Students also have access to an Internet-connected computer lab.

▲ Home-stay Information
Arrangements are made for students to stay with area hosts. A $175 per week fee includes a room with meals or $125 per week fee includes a room with kitchen privileges. Host families live within walking distance of the school, or on a bus route. We cannot guarantee a family for a student who gives us less than 2 months notice. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a family for a student who smokes. A student may have more than one host family during his or her stay at ILI . There are more housing opportunities for students who decide to rent a car. Arrangements can also be made for students to stay at one of the many comfortable hotels and Bed and Breakfasts nearby.
